Web Service

A software system that can be used over the internet by other software.

Web Services are often provided by 3rd-party Service Providers.

Examples:

• a Web Service that checks addresses for correctness;
• a Web Service that calculates shipping charges for a parcel of a certain size, weight and destination;
• a Web Service that simplifies sending notifications to App Users through an App’s Smartphone Component.
