Advantages:

• typically technically simpler and more cost-effective to implement than alternatives;
• easier and cheaper to operate than alternatives;
• simplifies security;
• implementation technologies, and developers with appropriate skills are widely available.

Disadvantages/risks:

• limited with respect to what the App can do; e.g. Peer Communication is limited or impossible;
• personal data is exclusively controlled by the App Operator;
• the App Operator has full, real-time view into all actions by all App Users.
